G/S Solutions is an experienced provider of IBM i solutions, service, and support. This dates back to the AS/400 platform, and includes the iSeries, System i, and now Power Systems platforms. With long experience providing IT solutions to the manufacturing sector, in the late 2000's, we were approached by DENSO Manufacturing, a long time data collection customer to see if we could lend our IBM expertise to their team for ongoing support of their AS/400 environment.
DENSO Manufacturing Michigan (DMMI) has a 1.3 million square foot location in Battle Creek Michigan, with 2465 employees on site. DMMI produces automotive heating and cooling components and systems, as well as assembly for cooling modules for the agricultural and construction industries. The Battle Creek facility provides IT operations for 14 other plants within the organization, meaning system uptime and performance are critical.
DENSO's team relies on outside vendors for first step support, including troubleshooting, upgrades, and optimization. G/S sales engineers provided the initial assistance and developed a framework for covering key needs moving forward. A support program was established to assist with iSeries and OS related issue that may come up during regular operations of their environment. When upgrades are being considered, G/S gets involved very early in the project, helping size the solution to fit existing needs as well as sizing for future growth. G/S Solutions includes disaster recovery planning updates for these solutions as they are planned and implemented.
Implementation of new IBM i solutions is done with a turn-key approach. G/S, having provided the initial plan, takes care of the initial build and deployment, and assists with the decommissioning of older servers. Ongoing support and services are then provided for the new i Series solution. This approach enables the DENSO network operations team to focus on operational excellence, without needing to sacrifice from day to day duties to focus on large scale upgrade planning and change management every few years.
